Oils, oils, and more oils: Benefits of Argan oil, Grapeseed oil, Jojoba oil, and Olive oil

I am a huge fan of body oils. I particularly love to put them in my body scrubs or bath water. They make a great addition to your skin care routine. Not only do they moisturize your skin, but they provide many added benefits to your skin’s health.

The oils used for body oils are typically carrier oils. Carrier oils are made from plants and can be used to dilute essential oils for skin application. There are a number of carrier oils such as apricot kernel oil which is an emollient oil high in fatty acids and vitamin E made from apricot seeds and sweet almond oil which is an edible oil made from the kernels of sweet almonds. These oils make it possible to use essential oils safely. They also help nourish and moisturize your skin.
There are many benefits of body oils such as stress relief and soothing sore muscles. Here are some of my favorites and their benefits:
  • Argan – rich in essential nutrients, antioxidants, and anti-inflammatory compounds; may treat skin conditions and aid in anti-aging
  • Grapeseed – good source of Vitamin E; great for oily skin; may aid in healing acne, tightening pores, lightening skin, and reducing the appearance of scars
  • Jojoba – good source of Vitamin E; contains antioxidant, antimicrobial and antifungal properties; regulates sebum production; may aid in healing acne, soothing eczema, and reducing the appearance of wrinkles and scars
  • Olive – rich in vitamins; contains antioxidant properties; fights bacteria; great for dry skin

There are other noteworthy oils such as avocado and coconut oil. Like olive oil, both avocado and coconut oil are easy to access. Most of us have a bottle of olive oil in our kitchen cabinet. Other body oils can be found on amazon or at your local health market. If you having trouble finding the perfect lotion, do a little looking into body oils. You may find that adding in some olive oil or sweet almond oil does wonders moisturizing your skin.
