Aromatherapy!

Holistic care hasn’t received the attention it should have over the years. As people began to take better charge of their health and futures, that is changing. Holisitc care such as aromatherapy can serve as a useful tool for promoting health or complementing existing therapy treatment.

Aromatherapy is a holistic healing treatment that has been around for thousands of years. This type of therapy uses natural plant extracts (ie essential oils) to promote health and well-being. Aromatherapy is great for both mental and physical health. Aromatherapy can be used through skin application and smell. You can mix the essential oils into your body oils and creams or use a diffuser. Some of the most popular essential oils used for aromatherapy include: clary sage, eucalyptus, lavender, lemon, peppermint, rosemary, and tea tree oil.

Aromatherapy has a number of benefits including:
  • Managing pain
  • Improving sleep quality
  • Reducing stress and anxiety
  • Soothing sore joints
  • Treating headaches
  • Fighting bacteria, virus, or fungus
  • Improving digestion
  • Boosting immunity

I personally only use aromatherapy to reduce stress and maintain a positive and self-care promoting environment. As you explore the uses of essential oils, pay attention to how the different oils and methods of use affect you. Always talk to your doctor before starting any aromatherapy treatment. Remember that aromatherapy is meant to be a complementary therapy. It’s not meant to replace any doctor-approved treatment plan.
